MAMOD (SOUTHMOD)
Note: Model Currently Under Development
MAMOD is the tax-benefit microsimulation model for Malawi. It follows t the methodology developed in the framework of the SOUTHMOD project and uses the EUROMOD software. MAMOD allows to simulate hypothetical reforms of the tax-and-benefit system.
History:
The model was developed by Chimwemwe Magalasi, ISER PhD student and reasearcher at the Reserve Bank of Malawi. MAMOD’s development started in 2018/19 based on the Integrated Household Survey for 2016/17 (IHS4) allowing for representative results at the national level. In 2019/2020 new datasets based on the Integrated House Surveys for 2004/05 (IHS2) and 2010/11 (IHS3) were constructed and added to MAMOD. In 2020/21 the model was expanded to include new database based in Intergrated Household Survey for 2019/20 (IHS5).
