IMA Workshop on Microsimulation practice in government

*** Deadline extended to 10th February 2025 ***

The International Microsimulation Association (IMA), in collaboration with the UK Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Centre for Microsimulation and Policy Analysis (CeMPA), is organising a Workshop on Microsimulation practice in government, to be held online on November 4-5 2025.

We invite submissions on a variety of topics, including (but not limited to):

  • Model selection and specification (e.g., continuous vs. discrete time);
  • Data development and methods used therein (linkage, imputation, quality assurance);
  • Methods for calculation of transition probabilities;
  • Methods for alignment to aggregate targets;
  • Methods for verification and validation of models;
  • Forecasting using microsimulation models (e.g. estimation of uncertainties)
  • Modelling of incentives and behavioural responses (e.g. labour supply);
  • Frontiers of development (e.g. small group and spatial analysis, demography, emulators,
  • Agent-based modelling, mixed models, synthetic data use, machine learning-based);
  • Advances in IT and programming.

In addition to established applications, we welcome submissions covering exploratory and smaller-scale pieces of work, which may be possible to combine into collaborative papers later.

Please submit a short abstract (max. 300 words) by 20th January 2025 to
microsimulation.enquiries@dwp.gov.uk.

A call for EOI is available here – feel free to share.
